Haut Cuisine at Home With Britannia Range Cookers

April 30th, 2010

With cars, there’s Bentley. With stereos, Bang and Olufsen. With cookers? Britannia. Britannia range cookers are without shadow of a doubt the world’s classiest, most expensive and best built kitchen kit.

Like a Bentley, a Britannia range cooker is built to last, to look good, and to outperform anything that approaches it in terms of cost or function. Yes, then, a Britannia cooker is certainly not cheap – the average price for one is around three grand – but it certainly is brilliant. And if you’re in the market for the kind of cooker that costs more than a second hand car then you probably don’t care how much it costs anyway. Britannia cookers apply exclusively to the kind of person who wants the best that money can get, no second bests allowed: which is why they have built a name for themselves as the top dog in the domestic appliances universe.

With Britannia cookers, you get quality that’s built to last, and last, in packages designed to make any kitchen look like the set of a high-end TV show. The performance of Britannia range cookers is good enough to stock commercial kitchens – and often does – while their look easily eclipses the nasty dull aluminium found in most actual commercial brands. Britannia range cookers are finished in similar metals, but with the difference that sets a Bentley aside from, say, a posh taxi – it does the same job, but there’s something about the sheen, the look, the way it’s all put together, that puts the Britannia cooker in a different class altogether.

For a start, Britannia cookers look as though they have been smoothed and carefully fitted. With Britannia cookers, there’s none of the angular nonsense and ill-welded protruding edges that cause so many curses in a restaurant kitchen. Consider the difference between the interior of a high-spec executive car and a performance rally vehicle. That’s how a Britannia range cooker differs from an industrial oven. The dials are smooth and pleasant to touch; everything turns on and off with unobtrusive clicks: even the doors of the many ovens open and shut with the satisfying motion of a well oiled part.

Never let it be said (and you certainly can’t say this for a Bentley, which is where our car analogy rapidly bites the dust) that high class ignores economy. Some Britannia range cookers are adaptable for LPG, which makes them not only versatile and potentially low in fuel usage, but completely at home in isolated or industrial situations as well as modern city dwellings. A rich person living in a cottage in the middle of nowhere may have no other option than to fuel his or her cooker with LPG: which makes Britannia cookers their only sensible option.

Yes, they cost heaps more than similarly sized and functional cookers – but then similarly sized and functional cookers aren’t Britannia range cookers. When something is really good, you pay for the name as much as the kit. And Britannia cookers are. Really, really good.

How to Improve the Efficiency of Your Front Load Washing Machine

April 29th, 2010

How to improve the efficiency of your front load washing machine? Are you kidding me? But these are the most efficient washers already! Some of you may have voiced out these sentiments. But front loaders are only efficient if you know how to use them wisely. They consume less water and energy than traditional top loaders but most of us run extra rinse cycles and use hot water cycle every time we use our washing machine. If you do this quite a lot, you shouldn’t expect to see major changes in your next water and electric bill.

Let us cut to the chase and go down to the details on how exactly you can improve the efficiency of your front load washing machine:

1. Pre-treat your stained and soiled clothes first. Most of us do not really have that many soiled clothes. If you have children at home, this is probably your problem. Purchase anti-stain clothes cleaner and soak your stained clothes overnight in the solution. Be careful not to mix colored and white clothes. They should be clean already the next day. Add them to your relatively cleaner garments when you are going to do the laundry the next day. Use the cold water cycle and you are good to go. I still think the hot water cycle of a washing machine is vastly overrated. Not only can it gobble up a lot on electricity, this function can also damage your clothes.

2. Clean the drain pipes, water filter, lint filter and the water hoses all the time. One of the most common washer problems today is a clogged laundry machine. That can be attributed to the accumulation of grime, dirt and lime deposits in the parts where water flows. It is a waste of time, energy and water because you will need to run another laundry cycle once again when you have already fixed the problem. Regularly cleaning them will help you avoid this problem greatly.

3. Do not put too many clothes in one laundry cycle. Give your clothes some room to tumble and get cleaned up effectively. If you put too many clothes, detergent residues will not be dissolved and washed off easily. These residues can cling to your clothes. Because of that, you may need to run an extra rinse cycle.

4. Check the water pressure in your area. Most of the HE washers today require high water pressure to fill up the washer drum in time. But if you have low water pressure source, it fills up water inadequately and then the programming functions abort suddenly.

Now that you know this, make sure you check out the best washing machine brands of today that are very efficient. For more washing machine reviews, visit us at http://www.washingmachineadvisor.com

Hot Tub and Spa Information For the Shell Materials

April 28th, 2010

There are several types of shell materials that are available today. Here are some hot tub shell material descriptions that you can choose from.

Acrylic (Stone like and marbled surface) – acrylic spas and tubs are the most part that is backed by the fiberglass compound as the fastening resins has improved from the current years. The acrylic spas and tubs that are backed up with fiberglass are used for delamination wherein the surface materials and fiberglass detach and causes ugly bubbles. One of the important things to consider in buying a tub or spa is the Surface Warranty not for the structure Shell Warranty.

These two kinds of warranties are separated from the warranty coverage. It is also important to understand that purchasing these spas or tubs are good if you choose to purchase at the manufacturers that have been around in the business for quite a long time.

Acrylic backed with ABC Plastics – this is a material on the tub and spa surface that looks like acrylic backed with fiberglass but in place for adding the stiff agent (fiberglass), the surface of this material is backed up by the sheet of ABC plastics. The ABC Plastic is an impact resistant that if co-extruded in fashion, it seldom comes away to the acrylic plastic surface. The disadvantage of this material is that in making the vessel strong enough for withstanding the pressure of water that it contains.

Vinyl – this material is used for the soft sided tub. The shell material of this is found out to be easily damaged, most especially when the chemical balance is permitted to stay away of the ideal range for so long. In the markets where these types of tubs are available, for sure it is in the lowest price tubs.

Thermal Plastics – this is relatively new to the spa and tubs industry. This type of tub material has good point, in different cases, manufacturers are putting a lifetime structural and surface warranty on this material.

Things that you need to know;

The shiny acrylics are needed to get waxed occasionally except for the textured acrylic. It will maintain your tubs clean and will erase the unnecessary fine scratches that are formed in the normal use of the tub. Textured materials that are formed are able to clean with the plastic brush.

Some of the softer materials can turn out into a yellowish as they are faded by the high disinfectant materials and because of the extended exposure to the sun. Damages like these are usually not been covered by the warranty. All of the shell materials are able to get damage when it is directly exposed to the sun. If the spa is empty, never forget to keep the tub with cover.

Stone Tables – Understanding the Material

April 27th, 2010

Natural stone is a beautiful expression of the earth that can enhance the style and sophistication of any environment where it is used. However, most people don’t realize that the term stone can actually be applied to a variety of materials. This is important to note because different types of stone will have different durability and liabilities, which can be especially vital when dealing with stone table tops that get a relatively heavy amount of use during their lifetimes.

One of the most durable materials that you can use in table top applications is slate. This rustic stone is available in a natural cleft finish, which most closely resembles what people perceive rock to be, or in a smoother honed surface. Available in both solids and multi-colors, it is rated as one of the most durable and resilient materials available. Further, in multi-color form, the swirling unique patterns tend to make the piece resistant to staining, and easier to keep clean, as it doesn’t tend to end up looking messy easily.

Granite is another durable material that is fairly resistant to stains and scratches. It is often used in kitchen countertops, which come under the constant pressure of chopping and mixing, as well as a barrage of staining materials.

Sandstone, limestone, and travertine are relatively softer types of stone. In general these materials will be more likely to crack or chip than their stronger counterparts mentioned above. They will also be more susceptible to damage from stains.

Marble is probably the most delicate material that you can use in a table top application. It can stain easily when it comes in contact with an acidic substance, and the material itself is fairly fragile, meaning that it can chip or crack easily. Also in polished marble applications, the polish can be scratched quite easily.

One way to protect all of these stones, and keep them looking new and fresh is to regularly apply a chemical sealant agent to the material. This will clog the natural pores in the stone, making it impervious to spills that may occur. There is unfortunately no way to prevent cracks and scratches except care, although a finishing agent can create a slight invisible barrier over the surface of the stone.

Outdoor tables should be limited to materials that will either be able to withstand the constant pressure of the elements, or will at least weather nicely, taking on an ancient and antiqued look as the years continue to affect the stone.

Stone tables are a great way to bring the beauty and power of nature into your home, but you should be aware of the type of material you choose, and the care and maintenance that the type of stone will require.

April 25th, 2010

If you are a roofing company you know you need to keep your roofing jobs moving. The time to roof flies by with the time you have due to the weather. You may live in states that get steamy hot into the 90′s and 100′s or you may live in a state that has brutal winter weather. With the seasons and due to time constraints, customers are calling you left and right to get their roof done. Some of the customer’s roofs are emergencies as they are leaking and causing mold to form on the ceilings. You and your crew need to quickly give your customer an estimate. Once you make the time to evaluate the damage and how much it will cost the customer to fix his or her roof, you can sign the contract to get it done.

The weather forecast may be calling for rain or snow and you need to get the roof job done within the next few days. Thankfully you can get your supplies quickly such as the shingles for the roofing and a dumpster the next day.

Depending on your roof job, you can choose the size of dumpster that you will need. Dumpsters come in ten yards, fifteen yards and twenty yards. Since you can get a next day dumpster and know the size of your roofing job, it is easy to choose which dumpster you will need. If you are tearing off a roof approximately 1,500 square foot of single layer shingles, you can use a ten foot dumpster which naturally will be the lowest costing to pass onto your customer. The ten foot dumpster holds up to two tons. With more shingle layers and larger roofs you may have to rent a next day dumpster that is fifteen yards or twenty yards in size.

To make your life easier, choose a dumpster that is on wheels. You will be able to move it with ease if you need to when tearing shingles off from the front of the house to the back of the house you are working on. Secure Your House – The Easy & Affordable Way

April 23rd, 2010

A good solid set of automated gates and fences is top priority in securing your property. Automated gates can be fitted with a video/speaker box located outside the gates of the property and an intercom inside the house. Owners can (once confirming the identity of the visitor) press a button on their intercom and open the gates.

Gates usually have a timer (a couple of minutes, enough time to drive into the property) or underground censor mechanism and will close once the visitor has driven into the property. Owners are equipped with a remote control transmitter that, at the press of a button, opens or closes the gate. During a power failure the gates will work on a back-up battery system.

Automated garage doors work solely by remote control in much the same way as the gate; press the button once and the garage door opens, press it again and it closes. If you don’t like the thought of having yet another device in your pocket or handbag, you can use your mobile phone as a remote control via a GSM remote control system. The GSM control system is programmed via SMS text and can be used to open the gate, garage and any other electronic lock using a mobile phone or landline. The GSM remote system has an added benefit in that it can be used from anywhere on the globe. This makes it an ideal option for domestic properties where the gate or garage can be opened allowing the owner to let visitors or workmen into the property while they are away.

Richard Conway has been interested in security and gate automation since he started working in the industry 10 years ago. Richard has a small obsession with fences and gates and has written about them in many blogs and journals.

Cabinets For the Home Set the Tone For the Kitchen

April 21st, 2010

The kitchen is the heart of any home and making it look it’s best is one of the most important renovation project any homeowner can undertake. When looking to transform that country kitchen into a modern up to date kitchen, think about the cabinets for the home that will accomplish this task. The cabinets are the first thing you see when you walk into any kitchen and when they look light and oakey, of course country kitsch is what they’re going to convey.

Sometimes, renovating the kitchen cabinets can be as easy as changing out the hardware to something more modern, but other times, it takes a more solid investment of money and time.

While no one wants to have to rip out their entire cabinet structure, sometimes, it’s just easier to tear it out and start over. Other times, you can get away with simply resurfacing the cabinets or a good paint or stain job. There are several different types of cabinets that you may choose to go with, metal cabinets, wood cabinets or laminate cabinets. They each have their pros and cons and will serve you well with good care.

If you’re looking to give your kitchen a sleek appeal, you will want to consider installing metal cabinets. These kitchen cabinets are recyclable, low maintenance and resistant to corrosion. Additionally, they’re relatively inexpensive and come in various sizes as well as colors. They’re increasing in popularity due to their ease of care and the rising popularity of stainless steel.

For a classic look that never goes out of style, you will probably want to go with durable wood cabinets. Whereas metal cabinets, for the most part, create a modern contemporary look, a wood cabinet can create about any look you want based on the type of wood you choose. From the country oak appeal to a more contemporary teak wood, wood cabinets give everyone something from which to choose. And, if you find yourself tired of the look a few years down the road, wood cabinets can be stained and change the entire look of the kitchen.

Lastly, cabinets for the home can come in a laminate that imitates the look of wood at a fraction of the cost. For a family on a budget, for whom prices are a major consideration, this may be the answer. If you’re looking to change the look of their kitchen, this is an inexpensive way to create new look as laminate comes in a variety of colors, shades and designs.

If you’re tired of looking at the look of your kitchen, take the bull by the horns and change what you don’t like. Replace the kitchen cabinets, reface them or simply spend a weekend giving them the deep clean.

What Causes Roof Damage?

April 20th, 2010

Like any part of the house, the roof will eventually be damaged. In fact, because of its exposure to the elements, it is probably the most vulnerable part of the house. It is exposed to maximum stress and strain. Unfortunately however, the roof is also usually the last to be noticed when it comes to the maintenance of the house. Most homeowners have their walls repainted, or have new bathroom fixtures installed but how many have their roof upgraded or repaired? Even with new developments in roofing designs, roofs still deteriorate faster than walls.

There are many causes of roof damage and here are some of them:

  1. Poor Maintenance – As mentioned earlier, the roof is often the most neglected part of the house. But if this is constantly checked by the homeowner, any damage will be seen at its early stage and repairs can be done immediately.
  2. Improper Installation – The roof is perhaps the most important part of your home so, it is best to have a highly skilled and licensed roofing expert install it for you. Even before any construction starts in your home make sure that your contractor is properly qualified before allowing any work done on your roof. If your roof is not installed properly, it could have manufacturer warranties that are void and these will decrease your roof’s overall life expectancy. Another factor that contributes to improper roof installation is that in the past 15 years, due to constant changes in the economy, the bidding on new buildings has become such fierce competition that roofing contractors have cut corners to get the job done. These contractors fight unfavourable weather conditions to meet their completion deadlines and often, moisture is trapped in the roofing system which will contribute to early roof damage.
  3. Aging and Weathering – As soon as your roof is constructed, it begins to deteriorate. Why? It is immediately exposed to the sun, rain, sleet and snow. Intense heat dries out the roofing paper and it is pounded by rain and high winds from storms, melting and freezing snow can also cause an “ice dam” that cause reservoirs of water that seeps under roof tiles leading to serious roof damage under the surface. Hailstorms can also cause severe damage to your roof.
  4. Vibrations – Natural phenomena such as earth tremors or severe storms like hurricanes and tornadoes can cause damage to your roof as well as other parts of your home. Even if your home is located miles away from such occurrences in nature, it can get enough impact that will put a strain on the structure which can later contribute to roof damage. Some vibrations that can cause roof damage may come from machines, equipment, air conditioners, railroads and even truck traffic.
  5. Problems with Flashing – The purpose of flashing is to create a water-tight boundary between roof sections, between roofing materials and other parts of the house and between roofing materials and roof projections. Flashing can cause problems because of design or installation errors, sometimes flashing problems result from wind damage. These problems often result to leaks.
  6. Mechanical Damage – With all the developments in today’s technology, it has become a standard to put many pieces of equipment on the roof such as air conditioning units, phone and TV antennas, sign supports, etc. These equipments put extra weight on the roof. In addition to that, these equipments usually require servicing and when a service man goes on the roof, some damage may be done to your roof. Just using a ladder on a roof can cause a small break in a flashing which can cause damage or leakage later on.
  7. Falling Objects – Falling objects such as branches from trees, birds and small animals and maybe falling objects from nearby buildings can cause minor roof damage. But if these minor damages are not checked and repaired immediately they could become major problems.

If you pay as much attention to your roof as you do to your walls and other parts of your house that you constantly maintain and/or upgrade, you will easily detect roof damage at its early stage. Immediate attention to roof damage will help you avoid major damage that may lead to costly roof replacement.
