Repairing Air Circuit Breakers Instructions
Air circuit breakers instructions are very important to follow when you are working with electricity and performing a repair. Electricity always travels in a circle moving along a ‘hot’ wire toward a receptacle, which supplies the electricity to an appliance. The electricity will then return along a cold or neutral wire back to the panel. Repairing issues requires you to follow the air circuit breakers instructions so you are safe.
Most panels show notations or lists which explain in detail which fuses or circuit breakers control different circuits throughout the house. This usually occurs during installations of electrical panels by a previous homeowner or an electrician. If your control panel doesn’t have a reference list you will not be able to view in manuals which switch is for which outlet. This is because panels are manually wired and you determine which switch goes to which outlet when you install. It is always the best idea to map circuits so you can easily and quickly find the right breaker in the panel. This allows for a quick shut down of power or resetting of switches.
If the circuit breakers do not have numbers on them inside of the panel then you should number them and make a list yourself. This list should be posted inside of the panel door so you have an easy reference guide when you get inside of the panel. They should correspond to the right circuit for which the breaker controls. You should also place markers on the switches with the numbers. Don’t assume you will remember numbers. Place numbered stickers on the switches.
The next thing you need to do is trace the home circuits. The air circuit breakers instructions will require you to trace the circuits to be sure you have properly labeled the switches. Make sure the power to the home is shut down and also have someone help you trace each of the circuits back to the panel. This will require you have a voltmeter to test the breakers. You may need to remove and replace some of the breakers or labels on the panel. When you trace the circuits, the best thing to do is identify the large 240-volt breakers first by turning them on.
There are a number of problems that electrical circuits may have you should look for when testing them. These issues include faulty wiring, too many appliances plugged into the same circuit, defective receptacles and switches, defective plugs and cords, and faulty appliances. A breaker can be tripped when there is an extra current flowing through the circuit. This is actually a short in the circuit. It is easy to see if you have an overloaded wire or a short in the line. Testing the lines will help you find any problems with everything connected to the panel.
Always follow air circuit breakers instructions when you are labeling a panel to make it easy for you to identify the switches later. You should have someone help you with the job so you can properly test and label the breaker box. You may find many problems with the wiring in the home.

The rat population of Britain is currently at an all time high, fortnightly bin collections, lack of sewer baiting and the late-night takeaway are all cited as culprits in this rodent explosion, increasingly we see them but what do we really know about the humble creatures that thrive in our sewers and induce almost universal fear and loathing in all who encounter them.
Rats are not native to Europe or North America but originate in Asia and almost certainly arrived in Europe as stowaways on trading ships, indeed the common name for Rattus rattus is the ship or black rat.
In Asian folklore the rat is a prominent and often popular character. I Hindu mythology the elephant-headed god Ganesh is accompanied by a rat wherever he travels, an offering to Ganesh and his companion Vahana the rat is therefore an important part of Hindu worship.
To the Romans the sighting of a white rat was considered to be lucky but if you found that rats had chewed your belongings then you should postpone any business affairs that you were planning that day or they would surely fail.
Reviled in the west, the rat is revered in Chinese mythology, being part of the Chinese zodiac and respected for its quick wit and resourcefulness. The rat is considered good luck in China & Japan where it is credited with bringing the gift of rice to the world.
To the wandering Polynesians rats were an easily bred and transportable source of food.
In Britain and Europe rats have probably altered the course of history more than any other creature except man himself.
In the wake of the already earth shattering English win at the Battle of Crecy in 1346 Europe was about to undergo a monumental change in a most horrific and brutal manner that would see up to half the population wiped out and the very fabric of society altered forever.
It is said that in 1347 the Mongols laying siege to the Crimean city of Caffa began to succumb to a mysterious illness that killed swiftly and mercilessly. In order to weaken the city the Mongols catapulted the bodies of their own dead over the city walls and within days the inhabitants of Caffa also fell prey to the disease.
However, a group of Italian merchants escaped or were allowed to leave the city and return to Europe. Unknowingly they probably carried with them the Black Death, Yersinia pestis.
The ensuing plague raged throughout the continent reaching Britain in 1348 with up to ninety percent mortality in some areas and it reappeared in Europe in every generation for over four hundred years.
We now know of course that the rat was a carrier, or to be more precise the fleas that the rats carry on their bodies were the agents of plague transmission.
Indeed whilst being in no way established in fact, it is possible that the children’s story of the Pied Piper of Hamlyn is an allegory of the plague, it certainly indicates that the rat population was booming at the time.
Every cloud however has a silver lining and the survivors of the 14th century plagues found that they could now demand higher wages and better conditions as the shortage of workers in the wake of plague deaths created a sellers market for labour. The rise of the Yeoman Farmer and the British class system could be argued to be attributed to the humble rat.
Into modern times and the Black Rat is now almost extinct in the British Isles, having been replaced from the 18th century onwards by the Brown or Norway Rat (Rattus norvegicus) and it is this creature that now thrives in our sewers, on our streets and in our homes and it is when we encounter it there that it creates most revulsion.
A typical rat weighs around 200 – 300 grams or half to three quarters of a pound, and has a tail around the same length as its body, often making it appear bigger than it really is.
One of the primary functions of a rat’s tail is thermo-regulation; it uses its tail to dissipate body heat. When a rat’s temperature falls it restricts blood flow into its tail.
Rats are rodents, the word comes from the Latin ‘Rodere’ meaning ‘to gnaw or eat away’, aptly named as their teeth never stop growing and they gnaw on hard objects to keep them sharp, unfortunately this can often include electrical wiring and water pipes. A rat’s teeth can penetrate mild steel.
Often a rat will move into a loft or roof void looking for somewhere safe to give birth, being excellent climbers the interior of the cavity wall of the building is a common route, especially if there is an underground breach in the drainage system.
They are sexually mature at around 13 weeks and have a gestation period of about 20 -22 days giving birth typically to 7 – 10 young per litter.
They are naturally shy and nocturnal creatures said to suffer from ‘neophobia’ a fear of anything new in their environment.
Often the first signs that a house is infested will be the patter of tiny feet on the upstairs plasterboard ceilings, although with the modern trend for roof insulation an infestation can often go undetected for quite some time. In homes with floorboards gnawing will often be heard in the sub-floor area.
Their need to eat will often betray their presence, food stored in cupboards will be taken, cereal packets chewed, chocolate and crisps are favourites, although a rat often has a diet that we would find somewhat strange.
The rat has no ability to taste ‘bitter’ foods so it can quite happily munch away on a bar of soap for the fat content. Pest controllers use this as a safety feature and all rat poison is coated in a bitter substance that the rats can’t taste but which would make it totally unpalatable to a dog or a child.
Although the rat is no longer a plague carrier it does come with a number of unwelcome traits. It is a carrier of a number of diseases including Murine Typhus, Salmonella and Weil’s Disease, spread from rats’ urine, which unfortunately usually claims at least one life in Britain each year.
If you have a rat infestation then you have a legal duty to remedy it and in extreme circumstances forced entry to your property can be made against your will.
As a final sting in the tail, many household insurance policies specifically exclude damage by vermin so if a rat chews your wiring and the house burns down you may find yourself without insurance cover.
Hated, despised and unloved the humble rat continues to share and shape our environment in ways that we do not see or appreciate and despite our best effort the rat and man will always co-exist.

How to Pass Your Construction Safety Audit
If you run or are involved in a construction site, you’ll probably have come across a construction safety audit. These are essential to maintain the high levels of health and safety awareness demanded by the government. Most issues raised by a construction safety audit are quite simple things that can be easily resolved. Here are some of the most common problems overlooked by a these inspection.
Site security is hugely important, as any unauthorised visitors to your site will almost certainly create damage or get themselves harmed. Warning signs aren’t simply for construction site workers. They must be displayed in the most obvious places, or ones that would deter any would-be trouble makers. Ladders must be lowered, and immediate access to higher levels of the site must be taken away. Usually, break-ins to construction sites take place in the dark. Therefore, any open holes must be covered, and drop offs protected.
You simply must store your materials and equipment properly. General order is important, as well as smaller considerations. Any Construction Safety Audit will require that your waste disposal is managed correctly and spills cleaned as soon as is practicable. Bear in mind, many spillages on construction sites will be of a flammable nature, and must be dealt with immediately.
And there, of course, there are fire extinguishers. Any construction safety audit will require fire extinguishers to be properly placed, maintained and checked. All materials of a flammable nature should be stored and labeled properly. In the unfortunate event of a fire, the fire department number should be properly and regularly signposted throughout the site.
Many construction sites will have a confined space. In this situation, you will have to prove that you have trained everyone appropriately on health and safety. Remember you have a requirement to obtain and show the correct permits in many cases. You will also be aware of the necessity of a standby person. This person must have the appropriate training, and must be taking the appropriate precautions.
PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) rules should be adhered to at all times. This is the main cause of accidents on site. This will be assessed during your construction safety audit. This means you will have to show that employees are trained in use of PPE, as well as being accomplished and certified. Every instance where PPE can be used, it should be used. Similarly, correct on-site sanitation and drinking water must be provided by any site. Failure to adhere to these rules will result in a Construction Safety Audit going badly for the entire site.
Fulfill all the requirements of an audit and you probably won’t have any accidents on your site. That’s what everyone involved wants, but sometimes accidents do just happen. Remember that these rules are here to help you, not hinder your work in any way. If you see something that goes against any health and safety issues, get in touch with your site manager quickly. Remember, one mistake, if considered severe enough, can close any site, which means you and your workmates will cannot work on the site.
Ensafe Planning Solutions offers a downloadable construction safety management plan for construction contractors who are unable to write their own due to lack of time, money or knowledge. The plan is compliant with current Australian OHS legislation and can be easily and promptly customised to any construction site in Australia. Furthermore, Ensafe offers free guidelines for those wanting to write up their own safety plans on the website.

A porch swing can give hours, even years, of relaxation and good times for you and your family. It is a functional piece of furniture that allows you to be outdoors and not have to sit on the ground with the bugs and other creepy crawlers. There are lots of other reasons why a porch swing might appeal to you. Regardless of what those reasons are, you need to know how to care for and maintain your swing.
Most man made materials will show signs of wear and tear as they are subjected to the ravages of weather, the sun, and general use. You should not be upset if your porch swing is starting to show signs that it has been used. You just need to know what to do about it.
First of all, what do you do when your wooden porch swing starts to look faded, gets checkered spots or splinters on it, or gets flimsy? Well let’s address each one of those common situations in order and see just how easy it is to keep your porch swing operating the way it was intended to.
- Fading – A faded swing means it has had the sun working on it. The UV rays of the sun can do lots of damage over time. If the oxidation in the wood is bad enough you may have to take a sander to it before staining it again. When staining, be sure to apply a quality stain that has UV protection. This will give added protection. Paint is another good option that covers the wood completely. If your porch swing is painted and needs to be redone, just scrape and/or sand it before painting it with a good outdoor paint.
- Checkered or splintered wood – when this happens to your porch swing, it can become dangerous so make absolutely sure that you attack these problems with diligence and care. Sand away the bad parts. Don’t be shy about it either. If you have to sand deeply that’s okay. If the contour of a little section of the swing has to be changed slightly that’s okay too. Stain or paint will cover up your work and most people will hardly notice where you had to sand anyway.
- Flimsiness – A flimsy porch swing means that it may have loose joinery or hardware. If the cross pieces, slats, arm rests or stand are bolted together you can just tighten the nuts and bolts. This seems obvious, but I am constantly surprised that people don’t think to tend to this basic maintenance task. If the problem is the wood joinery, it may require a bit more work to fix. Joints that get loose can usually be fixed by injecting more adhesive and then clamping. In some cases (usually rare) it may be necessary to take the joint(s) completely apart to clean up the edges and then re-adhere and clamp.

When you’re ready to give your home’s exterior an extreme makeover, you know you can’t go wrong with reliable and durable vinyl siding. Siding improves the beauty of your home and protects you from the elements during severe weather. While it may appear all siding is the same, there are actually a number of varieties to consider for your home remodeling project. One particular design may not work well for your house’s structure, so it’s important to discuss with a contractor the possibilities.
Consider the look of your home – one or two stories? Split level? Do you plan to use more than one type of exterior? Depending on how you want the house to look, you’ll need to consider the style of vinyl siding to use. Here is a brief rundown of some of the more popular types of siding with suggestions for use.
Rough Split Siding – This design gives the eye the impression that your home is covered by split wooden shingles. Actually, you’re looking at vinyl panels ridged for that rugged appearance. This style is one that can complement a home with a stone exterior, perhaps siding for specific parts of the house.
Half Rounds Siding – A self-explanatory design, half rounds are just that. This isn’t necessary a style used to cover an entire home, but dormers or other sharp points toward your roof.
Dutchlap Siding – Perhaps the most commonly seen vinyl siding, Dutchlap is good to use if you plan to cover your entire house. It is durable and easy to clean, and available in many colors.
Board and Batten – Horizontal siding gives a wall a rustic, rural look. You’re likely to see this style on barns and industrial buildings.
Once you have the style of siding for your home, consult with a licensed, bonded contractor about installation and warranties. Your home will look brand new with the right quality siding.

As we welcome spring on March 20th it is a good time to take a moment to determine if your home is ready for spring. Along with the warmer weather and blooming flowers, the re-awakening of insects and pests also marks the passing of season. Do not let nuisance pests such as carpenter ants, lady bugs and other insects take over your home.

Many insects are attracted to areas where excessive moisture is present. Fixing any leaking pipes or plumbing as well as checking around your appliances for pest activity is an ideal way to prevent infestations. Again carpenter ants and even more damaging pests like the termite are attracted wet wood and will infest kitchens and bathrooms were they can find those types of conditions.

Take the time to walk around your home’s exterior, checking for cracks in the foundation and any other areas where a weakness may allow pests to enter. Also keep your eye out for nests in your eaves, under your deck or on the outside of your dwelling. Clear away any dead or rotten wood, trim trees and shrubs back from your home to eliminate any bridges and remove any standing water to prevent insect breeding.

When you buy Bosch, you can be sure you’re buying quality. In 2009 Bosch gained the Best Domestic Appliance Brand accolade from the prestigious consumer magazine Which?
However, contrary to popular belief, when you buy Bosch appliances it doesn’t necessarily mean breaking the bank. Bosch is priced very competitively as well as offering long-standing quality to customers. The high level of energy efficiency which the brand offers also ensures your running costs are reduced, saving you money for years to come.
If you’re seeking a fridge freezer, consider the Bosch KGV28V01GB. This appliance has an estimated annual running cost of just £38.40 per annum (depending of course on your fuel tariff). This is a great low price for keeping your food fresh or frozen all year round.
The Bosch KGV28V01GB is a member of the Classixx range, the entry level brand of Bosch appliances. This is a great option for first time buyers, young families, or anyone looking for a fridge freezer which simply does what it says on the tin. As this model is an entry level appliance it doesn’t contain the full range of features available within the Bosch range (for these look to the Exxcel and Logixx Bosch fridge freezers). However, it does still possess some innovative features including:
• Auto defrost fridge – this feature means the appliance always works at its optimum as ice doesn’t accumulate on the cooling element.
• Fridge wine rack – store up to three bottles of your favourite tipple in the fridge. This is perfect for dinner parties and get-togethers.
• Big Box freezer drawer – this is a great solution for storing larger items such as the Christmas turkey, putting a stop to the festive panic. It is also very useful for storing barbecue meats in the summer months – it is often worth freezing these meats as the variable British weather can make it very difficult to plan barbecue days.
With a capacity of 266litres the Bosch KGV28V01GB fridge freezer is of perfectly adequate size for an average family (eg. two adults and two children).
It also offers a level of safety for families with children with its safety glass shelves. The safety glass ensures the shelves will not shatter should you accidentally drop them. Glass shards can be very dangerous and painful to tiny toes. In addition, drawer stops prevent the accidental tipping of contents.
The Bosch KGV28V01GB fridge freezer is 55cm wide, which is slightly slimmer than the average 60cm appliance. So if you’re stuck for space, this appliance could be a good option.

If you have a limited income and need some window treatments you could choose to get some temporary paper blinds to hang on your windows. The blinds come in a ready to use easy stick on variety that allows you to have privacy for your room. The paper blinds usually come in boxes containing about 6 blinds. They come in pre-measured sizes so you’ll want to check the size on the box to get one that is closest to the dimensions of your window. They can also come with clips that allow you to keep the blind at the desired length you need.
The temporary blinds are available in several colors so you can choose a blind that will blend in with your room. The blinds are also 100 percent environmentally friendly and can be recycled as paper. There is also the temporary shade that is available for use. The shade snaps into place without brackets, screws or mountings. The ready to use shades are also constructed of paper and can be trimmed to fit the length of your window. The Redi-Shades come in light filtering white or natural and have a pleated design to them.
Choosing to use temporary paper blinds is also a good idea if you are in the process of redecorating or remodeling a room. They fill in during the time you don’t have the actual window treatment available for use. The price of the blinds made of paper start as low as $5 per blind. The low cost also makes them a good choice for students to use. The blinds not only allow you to have privacy, but they also work to filter the light that comes into the room. This can be an advantage to avoid having too much sunlight in a room where it might cause glare on objects such as TVs or computers.

Roller garage doors are more like solid curtains of metal rather than doors as we know them. Regardless, they serve the purpose of restricting and allowing access very well. Aside from being secure, they are also convenient.
Roller garage doors can be analyzed as three separate component groups. The first is the curtain, the second is the driving mechanism, and the third is the control system. The curtain is a flexible sheet made of many horizontal strips jointed at the top and bottom. These joints provide secure interlocking as well as enough flexibility for rolling up. The driving mechanism is an electric motor attached to the curtain or to the curtain’s central rod, and it serves as the source of kinetic energy to roll the curtain up automatically. Lastly, the control system includes the devices for activating the drive mechanism, such as wall-mounted control panels, remote control units, and others.
Roller garage doors save space both in front of and inside the garage. Because the bulk of the system is mounted directly above the doorframe, you have more overhead space inside the garage. You have more space in front of the garage because the door does not have to swing out or upward to let the vehicles in or out.
One problem that can occur with roller garage doors is noise. This is likely to be the result of sudden starts and stops of the driving mechanism, or loosely-jointed curtain components. Higher-end models have features that counter act this problem, by using smart speed control systems, lighter curtain materials, tight but flexible joints, and more. As an example, roller garage doors by Hormann are among the very best.
With roller garage doors, you can just roll up and roll out – or in as the case may be. When you are inside the garage, you may be unaware of potential obstructions right outside your door for garage. With doors for garage that swing out or up, you have to worry about hitting something, or worse, someone. With the roller type of doors for garage though, you won’t have to worry about anything swinging out and connecting. Short of actually leaning on the curtain, there is no way that a roller garage door can hurt someone or damage anything as a result of the opening operation.
There are lots of safety and security features included in these doors too. The door is secured by a physical component in the driving mechanism instead of a lock on the curtain, meaning that the lock cannot be picked or popped open. An automatic cut-off system will stop operation upon impact, or if an obstruction is detected using optional integrated infrared sensors. High-tech keys, secure remote transmissions, and even biometric readers mean that entering without authorization is nigh impossible. Emergency release and locking mechanisms secure or release the door with manual effort in the case that the power is out.
Hormann makes not only roller types, but all sorts of doors for garage, and they can even retrofit your exiting garage. They provide complete solutions, lots of options, and the quality of their work is top class.
